Artificial Intelligence for Development Policy Initiative II

Policy
Senegal
Countries funded solely by the IDRC

The first phase of the AI4D program highlighted the possibilities of a future where AI radically transforms the way we live, work and interact. Lessons learned range from the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to the importance of ethics and transparency in the development of AI systems. In addition, this work has highlighted the importance of reliability and interpretability of AI models to ensure that they are safe and effective in diverse application domains.

This project builds on the first phase to strengthen responsible, ethical and inclusive AI in Francophone countries in West Africa. It does so by working with policymakers, creating opportunities for policy co-creation between policymakers, researchers, innovators and civil society, and demystifying the notion of AI to the population. This phase will emphasize the importance of synergy of action at regional and national levels, with a focus on capacity building, seizing the opportunities and meeting the challenges of AI while respecting the principles of human rights and equality.
