About

The Anglophone AI for Development (AI4D) Research Lab, now AfriAILab, strengthens the capacity of public universities in Anglophone Africa to conduct high-quality, multidisciplinary research in responsible artificial intelligence (AI) for development. The lab focuses on fostering research, teaching, and scholarship to deepen understanding of AI in the African context and advance responsible, inclusive methodologies.

Through mentorship, community building, and access to high-quality teaching materials, the lab enhances research and teaching capacity across the region. It promotes gender-inclusive approaches, supports AI deployment and commercialization from academia to the private sector, and builds a vibrant AI4D ecosystem in sub-Saharan Africa.
